128: Puppet With No Strings

[Introduction: Eric Doyle, the sadistic puppet-master, can control people's bodies and actions with his power. He has spent most of the last two years in captivity in The Company's isolated "Level 5". But on the night of the Primatech fire, he was freed by Noah Bennet. He fought and lost to Sylar. And then escaped in the inferno. We pick him up weeks later - as he encounters a new adversary!]

(Eric Doyle is bound to a chair, being tortured by Danko. Rachel Mills and Jason Pierce stand guard.)

Eric Doyle Narrating: (face-punch )It's a lot of pain. But you kinda get used to it after a while. There'll be a second or two before the next fist. A couple of gulps of air...that'll help. (face-punch) Okay, that should be it it for a minute. Now the questions will start up again...

Danko: Feel like talking yet?

Rachel: Sir, looks like he's had enough? Maybe we should take him in? Senator Petrelli's orders are...

Danko: (interuppting) Petrelli's not in charge tonight...I AM> So. One last time, before I get mad. Who else was there? Who else survived?

Eric Doyle Narrating: They want my story. But it won't make a difference. No matter what they'll just lock me up. torture me. kill me. Looks like the company is back. But this new breed. meaner...uglier.

Eric Doyle: Why didn't you just say you wanted a story? I've got a good one. But I've got to warn you, there's no happy ending.

Eric Doyle Narrating: Maybe rebel was watching me. That night two months ago as Pinehearst burned to the ground. I was sure I was the only one alive. But then I saw someone else. Like a wolf in the distance. His animal eyes ripped through the darkness right at me. But, that night at least, he had other things on his mind. You'd love to get your hands on Sylar wouldn't you? He's a whale. I'm a minnow. With the Company burned to the ground, all those years of fear left me, like the tide going out. The joy of my power came back to me just like in the old days. I could use it to get anything I wanted...money...a car...a place to lay low...a hot mean...anything! But even when you can get anyone to do whatevr you want...you can't stop their faces. You can't stop their eyes...I disgust them. And that made me disgust myself. (puking in a commode.) I hate that feeling.

(TV Screen blairs a message in the next room.)

Eric: What the...?

Eric Doyle Narrating: And that's when I first heard from him...

Rebel Message on TV: Doyle...you can change! "Rebel"

Eric Doyle Narrating: Rebel? After that Rebel was everywhere. Talking to me. Calling out to me.

Rebel on storefront TV Screens: People need help help them! "Rebel" People are good

Eric Doyle Narrating: Everywhere.

Rebel on Marquee
: So are you.

Eric Doyle Narrating: Maybe he was right. Maybe I was good. Maybe I could help. If so, I knew I had to go back to the only place that had ever made me happy. Before the powers. Before all of this.

(Doyle returns to his now condemned puppet theatre and starts to play with puppets.)

Eric Doyle Narrating: A long time ago I had made people laugh instead of cry. Maybe I could do that again. Which is when you nice people showed up. (Doyle is tazered in the back.)

Eric: You're rebel, aren't you? You lied and tricked me. You made me hope again just so you could get me back here and catch me.

Danko: I've got news for you. You're insane. There is no "Rebel". Thanks for the tip about Sylar, though. Now-- to finish up that business about you dying in a fire! (Danko lights a molitov cocktail and slams it to the floor, igniting the room as he and his squad leave Doyle to die in his buring theatre.) Call in about Sylar. Find out if he's got any family and stake them out. Meanwhile, let's follow up that lead on the invisible guy.

Jason: Yes sir.

Rebel texts Rachel: It's time - do it now!

Jason: Rachel, you coming? Where'd she go?

(Rachel teleports inside to rescue Doyle.)

Eric Doyle Narrating: You can't cheat fate. I did bad things and now it's come down to this...my time is up.

Eric: (to Rachel who cuts him free) You...? You saved me?

Rachel: I have to get back. If Danko finds out I have a power he'll lock me up...or worse. Take my phone. Rebel wants you to have it. Now run!

Eric: Rebel?

Rachel: Listen to Rebel. He'll help you!

Jason: (Back outside at the truck) Where the hell were you?

Rachel: My boot lace snapped. I had to fix it. Sorry.

Eric Doyle Narrating: She works inside the organization, helping us...even though, with her power it's got to be the most dangerous place to be.

(Buzzzzz)
Rebel texts: Find Claire Bennet. She will save you...Rebel.

Eric Doyle Narrating: Maybe people are good after all...

[The End]

127: Comrades Part 2

[Introduction: Noah Bennet and Claude teamed up with Ivan Spektor to bag and tag The Russian, a man with the ability to shift his age. During a foot chase through a Moscow Metro Station, Ivan convinced Noah that their dangerous target must be killed. But when The Russian shifted his age to that of a young boy, the stakes were raised and Noah realized the hunt has only just begun...]

Noah Bennet Narrating: I was assigned to take this kid down. The age shifting Russian.

Offscreen(Ivan or Claude): No! Don't let him get away!

[Caption: Moscow. December. 1998.]

Noah Bennet Narrating: But things don't always play out how we expect.

Ivan: (As 'boy' runs away.) I am disappointed in you both.

Claude: Cry me a river.

Ivan: One day you'll see that your tender side requires discretion. The Russian tricked you into being kind, Noah. You should've pulled the trigger. He could be anywhere now.

Noah Bennet Narrating: For example...In 8 years I am going to kill Ivan. And in a year I will follow orders to shoot Claude. Three times.

Noah: Yes, he could be anywhere. But he's a little kid. I have a hunch where he's hiding.

Claude: And what do you plan to do once you find him?

Noah: Use my discretion.

Noah Bennet Narrating: Tonight is when both those courses of action first took hold. While we're all working together.

Claude: You're not taking Ivan's side, are you?

Noah: I have to consider it. He's see the Russian kill.

Claude: You looked into the Russian's eyes, Noah. He's a child. Not a killer.

Noah Bennet Narrating: I understand Claude's sympathy for the Russian. But that attitude flies in the face of the job we're here to do.

Noah: No. He's an age shifter, Claude. Not a child. Dammit...Where did he go?

Claude: I'll check this way.

Noah: I'll look over here. See anything?

Claude: No. Nothing.

Noah Bennet Narrating: It was a simple white lie. Claude thought the Russian could escape. But it was a betrayal to the company. Claude was choosing sides.

Ivan: Noah! He's right there!

Noah Bennet Narrating: That white lie put Claude on the Company's watch list. Claude always believe that Ivan manipulated us...That Ivan called out to me just to put the Russian on the defensive. So he'd age shift to his older self. (He age-shifts, and draws a knife and starts to stab Ivan). I've always thought Claude might be right. Because in the end, my hand was forced to do exactly what Ivan wanted. (Noah shoots the Russian.)

(Later, they sit again at the table...this time drinking vodka.)

Ivan: You see, Claude. I was right.

Claude: This time. But using a gun might not be right next time.

Ivan: Maybe next time we'll have guns pointed at each other.

Noah Bennet Narrating: I never quite forgave Ivan. For scarring my humanity. For raising the red flag on Claude. But he did teach me one thing. Evil comes in all shapes and sizes. It wears many faces. And sometimes it's starting right at you.

Noah: (toast) Here's to standing behing the trigger. (they all drink).

[The End]

Noah:

126: Comrades Part 1

[Introduction: When Noah Bennet joined the Primatech Company he was partnered with Claude - a man who could turn himself invisible. In their early years, both men worked under the supervision of Ivan Spektor, a Russian Company Agent. After a few years of experience, HRG and Claude are now on a bag and tag mission in Moscow - receiving help from a newly retired Ivan. But Ivan's presence could prove to be very damaging...]

[Caption: Moscow. December. 1989.]

Noah Bennet Narrating: My predecessors trained me well for what I do. I've prepared myself for everything that could be thrown my way. But one thing you can't guard yourself from - is the psychological toll.

Noah: (Sitting at a table by the street) Ivan Spektor. It's been a long time.

Ivan: Hello, Noah. Good to see you on the hunt in my turbid city again.

Noah: What makes you think I'm hunting? Maybe I'm here on vacation.

Noah Bennet Narrating: You never know how the job will screw with your head until it's over.

Ivan: Da, and maybe I'm handsome like Baryshnikov. When on vacation in Russia you drink vodka. When on duty you drink espresso. You're on duty.

Noah: You're very receptive for a retired agent.

Ivan: I'm guessing you're here to bad the one called "The Russian"?

Noah: Can't say we're not clever with our names.

Ivan: Let me offer my services. I notice you don't have a partner.

Claude: (materializes in the empty chair at Noah's table) Actually, he does.

Ivan: Claude, I didn't see you there.

Claude: That's generally the idea of being invisible.

Ivan: Good. We can use that. Let us go. Your Russian rides the Metro.

Noah Bennet Narrating: The Russian. Our knowledge on what he's capable of is limited. Sources tell us he's the patriarch of a family. All men. Varying in ages. All of them criminals. Con Artists. Thieves...and Killers. They mysteriously always evade capture from authorities. Raising a red flag that suggests use of an ability. Catching this Russian will be the first step to bringing them all down. And it looks like we're about to learn exactly what he can do.

Claude: Slow down there, old man. Um...what's wrong with your face?

(The Russian age-shifts from his original old-man personae, to that of a young man.)

Claude: Your'e not the RUssian we're looking for.

Noah: Be careful, Claude! He's an age shifter!

Claude: An age what now? (Claude tackles him onto the train.)

Noah: How did we not know he could do that?

Ivan: I've had my suspicions. Hurry. Get on the train.

Noah Bennet Narrating: We thought we were after a family operation...the old man...in charge. The son -- a young man in his prime. The grandkids -- a teenager and a young boy.

Ivan: That old man might have been harmless, Noah. But the young man is a killer. I've seen what he can do with a knife.

Noah: And I've read the reports. But he hasn't posed us any real threat.

Ivan: He's a threat by his very nature. He has an ability.

Noah Bennet Narrating: But all along it was the same person. Shifting his age back and forth. Ivan has a point. If the Russian endangers a life -- there's cause for termination. Even if I empathize with his conflict. Being...different. It doesn't matter. Because even though he's not like me -- he has his humanity. He's gotta know right from wrong.

Claude: Uh oh...He's doing it again.

(The Russian age-shifts to that of a young boy. Noah draws his pistol.)

Claude: You can't Noah. You can't shoot a kid.

Noah: He's not really a child. He's just trying to get in your head.

Noah Bennet Narrating: But what about my humanity?

[To Be Continued...]

125: The Swimmer

[Introduction: Alex Woolsley's day started in Sam's Comics. It ended with hiding for his life in the closet of a stranger's bedroom. Wouldn't you have a few questions?]

[Caption: Alex Woolsly. Costa Verde, CA]

Alex Narrating: (At a swim meet.) There was a time when my life was...perfect. I had a skill. I had a passion. I had a family.

Alex's dad: Didn't even come up for a breath!

Alex's sister: whatever...

(venue changes to Sam's Comics)

(venue changes to the beach surfing with friends.)

Alex Narrating: The beach was my second home, and my friends were never far away. I was always careful with the gift I was given. Usually. (A friend wipes out and hit's his head on a rock while surfing, but Alex rescues him.) If I took risks, I think they were for good reasons overall...

Girl on beach: (As Alex drags hurt surfer to shore.) That was unbelievable.

Alex Narrating: My life has been extraordinary. So where did I go wrong? How did I end up a fugitive? Where did I slip up and show my hand?

Claire flashback: You're in danger. (remembers meeting Claire, and he cutting her hand to show she too is special)

Alex Narrating: Where did my passion get the better of me? When was the exact moment I lost my family? The familiar places are gone. They'll never be safe for me again. Which of my friends sold me out?I'll never get to know. It doesn't matter now anyways. I had it so good. But there is no going back. My life veered into a frightening ugly place. Which is a real shame, because it was a beautiful world. But then again, maybe it still is. (sees Claire enter the closet.)

[The End]

124: Libertad

[Introduction: While her world is falling apart and danger lurks around the corner, Claire Bennet receives a call to arms from a mysterious "friend" named Libertad. A simple text message telling her to hold out hope, fight back, and be ready. Little does Claire know that she's not the first to get these messages. And she's not the first to wonder: Can I trust them?]

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: The don't know me. They never will. I'm just an idea in their head.

Misha: Watch carefully, Harmon. People are disappearing.

Harmon: It's my block. Don't worry.

Misha: Your block to watch. Not tag up my bar. Rebel. Dobitoc. (Angie enters the door of the Angry Skunk nightclub.) Angie! You're late.

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: I've given them all a message. Rebel. They take from it what they choose. Sometimes my help is more concrete. People like us are in danger.

Trafficker: Misha, you lady would like a new identity. Can we help?

Misha: That depends on what name she leaves behind.

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: I can get them to safety. Sometimes.

Maya: My name is Maya.

Trafficker: $7,000. If you know any tricks, pretty Maya, we might work something out.

Maya: No tricks. Not anymore.

Trafficker: If you have no talent, why are you hunted?

Maya: (turning over a tray of glasses) $4,000! Creep!

Trafficker: (telekinetically holds the spilled water and glasses in the air) See? I have a trick.

Off-frame1: These dogs don't believe me, or care.

Off-frame2: Interesting.

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: (Harmon's is shown walking outside.) My help to thers is an idea. Let their mind unravel the little things until they can grasp the bigger picture. Sometimes, it is unorthorox.

Simon Boliver: Are you Harmon?

Harmon: Who's asking? You look strung out.

Simon: Simon Boliver at your service. A message for you.

Harmon: (takes a piece of paper) Sure...

Simon: Please take it so I can get the hell out of here.

Danko's Surveillance Team: (Observing from inside a van) What is he doing? We'll find out soon.

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: With any luck, I am a threat to the right people. Even if they don't know it.

(Venue changes back inside the Angry Skunk.)

Simon: (holding the piece of paper, saying 'Viva Libertad - Rebel and be Saved") The guy was in a uniform and everything!

Harmon: We can trust him-- or her...rebel sends you the same messages as me.

Misha: This is a setup.

Angie: Liar.

Misha: No.

Angie: Misha, our friends are disappearing. But we've been helped. Someone is bringing us together.

Maya: What does Rebel want from us?

Harmon: Trust. In each other.

Simon: Rebel is my source for ID's. I say what I need and it is arranged. I trust Revel, not this card. No ID until it is safe.

Maya: Rebel told me to come here.

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: The simplest manipulation...(Libertad/Rebel queues a message on the TV stating: "Rebel & Be Saved!")

Harmon: (Pointing to the TV message.) How 'bout now?

Angie: 11:00 P.M.

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: But not everyone can put their life in a stranger's hands...

(Later Misha and the Trafficker walk alone down the street)

Trafficker: Those kids don't listen anymore. These are dangerous times.

Misha: This Rebel has been profitable to us so far. Helped us get many people safe. Off! (The two are bagged, captured, and interrogated for when the others are meeting.)

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: Misha was right. In the blink of an eye...those who need each other most...can be unleashed upon on another.

Misha/Trafficker: (while being beaten). They meet tonight.

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: They had hope. Men are cuel to take that away.

(Danko's team repels onto the Angry Skunk rooftop from a chopper, taking up positions for the trap.)

Off-frame: How did they know? These ones always know.

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: To leave them with nothing.

Maya: My ID. Now what?

Harmon: Be happy Rebel warned us.

Angie: Someone told. Trust no one. There's no saving us.

Harmon: Angie, trust me. We can fight back.

Maya: Take my adfice. Get away. Lay Low! They'll be back!

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: Their rebellion ended before it een began. Dissolved in fear. (Harmon is seen wallcrawling up the side of the building.) But if they can hold on to something, no matter how small or big. It may just get them through the stormiest night...(Maya is hiding inside as Danko's team enters the Angry Skunk, and receives a text stating: "I can still help you...will you trust me?")...Maybe it can last long enough to pass on to someone else.

(The surveillance van turns the corner behind Angie, heading towards here. She receives a text message on her phone saying, "Run!")

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: Helping someone along may be all the power you have. Yet if we can make it through this night...joy comes in the morning.

(As the capture squad exists the van with guns drawn, Angie takes flight into the sky and away. )

Libertad/Rebel Narrating: Viva la Libertad. -- A Friend.

[The End]

123: Out of Town...On Business

[Introduction: After the distintegration of Primatech and the destruction of Pinehearst, HRG had put his "business trips" behind him until a few reports started trickling in... and some of them sounded a little too familiar.]

[Caption: Friday, 8:23 PM. Steel Family Safe Insurance, Pittsburgh, PA.]

Secretary: Alright, I'm out. Do you need anything else?

Joe Macon: No, I'm about to head out in a few anyways. Thanks.

Secretary: Have a good weekend Mr. Macon. Don't work too hard.

Joe Macon: Haha, I never do! Working hard just isn't in my nature. (He has a spread of forms laid out across his desk, and bring his hand over them, invoking his ability, his hand glows, makes a "scrrrrrr" sound, and all the papers are now filled in.) And now that I got all these signed...I'm gonna get the hell out of here.

Sylar: Don't leave yet. That was neat. (oversaw his ability use)

Joe Macon: (acting as if nothing happened) I don't know what you're talking about.

Sylar: Do you insure anyone named Gray?

Joe Macon: We can't disclose client information.

Sylar: Well maybe I can just pick your brain?

[Caption: Sunday, 12:14 PM -- Bennet House, Costa Verde, CA]

Claire: Hey dad, I need fifty bucks. Dad? What the--? (holding Mr. Muggles, she sees a note on the table that reads, "Heading out of town...on business. -- love, Dad" She picks op the phone, speaking to Mr. Muggles...) He'd better have a better explanaion that that. It sounds a little suspicious, doesn't it Muggles?

[Caption: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania]

(Ring...Mr. Bennet answers his cellphone from his car.)

Noah: Hello Claire bear, have you started looking at those college brochures?

Claire: Don't "Claire bear" me, dad.

Noah: Excuse me?

Claire: Out of town on business? It's going back to exactly how it was.

Noah: Claire, you're over-reacting.

Claire: Am I? Because the last time you went out of own on business, you were catching the bad guys with Sylar.

Noah: Claire, I know--

Claire: And we both know how that worked out...

Noah: Sylar's dead, Claire. He's gone. There's no other way for me to sa that.

Claire: But...

Noah: No "Butts" about it. (swiping an access card to gain entrance into a door.) I'm about to step into a meeting... [Caption: Steel Family Safe Insurance -- Pittsburgh, PA.] So I'm going to have to let you go, okay Claire? Be good and tell your grandmother you want to see Columbia when you're in New York, It's --

Claire: A meeting? Really? What kind of meeting do you have on a Sunday?

Noah: At an insurance company -- They're having a situation they need to retify immediately. They said it couldn't wait.

Sandra: (from the other room) Claire, I'm home! Could you come give me a hand with groceries?

Claire: Okay, Fine -- But it still doesn't smell right. Okay, Coming, Mom.

Noah: We'll talk about it when I get home, Claire. I have to go. (Pushing the L5 button on the elevator, Noah gets blood on his finger.) Son of a bitch.

(Bennet House)
Sandra: Claire, what are you doing?

Claire: Oh -- just on the phone with dad...he though he forgot something in his office.

Sandra: And?

Claire: Nope! Must be somewhere else.

(Back in PA, Noah enters the 6th floor office of Joe Macon, gun drawn, and sees Macon's skull cap lying on the ground, head opened, and brain missing, knowing now that Sylar survived.)

Noah: #%#@!

[The End]

122: Almost Famous

[Introduction: Matt Parkman begins to forge his new life with Daphne as the two attempt to start over in New York City. Having normal lives. Being ordinary people. But in extraordinary circumstances, sometimes the temptation becomes too strong to resist...]

(Matt Parkman is working security outside a concert event where the marquee states: "Heather Haze in concert".)

Matt: Arena security. Can you open your coat for me? (to a gotee wearing fan)

Unknown Assailant: (Matt's Telepathy: I love Heather so much. If she can't be mine, she has to die.)

Matt: What did you say?

Gotee fan: I didn't say anything. (Matt's Telepathy: Hurry up man, I gotta go to the bathroom.)

Matt: Sorry, you can go. Hey man, can you cover my row? I'll be right back.

Matt's co-worker: Come on Matt! There's twenty thousand people waiting to get in.

Matt: I'll be right back.

Matt's co-worker: Hey Parkman, you can't just leave your post, I'm telling Jerry.

Matt: Okay, you do that. I'll tell him how you rushed people through without checking their bags.

Matt's co-worker: Take your time!

Matt narrating: That woman. could she be the one?

Matt: Why are you here? (grabs her arm)

Woman: What? (Matt's Telepathy: Is this guy nuts?)

Matt: Never mind.

Unknown Assailant: (Matt's Telepathy: I don't want to shoot her but I can't bear to see her with anyone else.)

Matt: Where are you? Whatever you're going to do! Talk to me first!

Tan Cap Bystander: Who are you talking to?

Matt: I don't know.

Jerry: (over security radio) Parkman, where are you?

Matt: Jerry, I'm in the first floor lobby. Listen, you have to postpone the concert!

Jerry: Are you crazy, I don't have the clearance to do that! Why?

Matt: Look, there's someone here who wants to kill Heather Haze.

Jerry: What are you talking about? How do you know this?

Matt: Uh, I can't tell you how I know that, I just know. You gotta close this arena down!

Jerry: Parkman, did we drug test you? (click)

Matt: I guess that's going nowhere.

Matt Narrating: Alright, think, Parkman. Think like a detective. What are you missing here? If I wanted to kill Heather Haze, how would I---(He sees a guy running with a security jacket on)

Matt: You! Security, Stop!

Unknown Assailant: (Matt's Telepathy: He knows.)

Matt: Security! Out of the way! (on mike) Jerry, where is Heather Haze's dressing room?

Jerry: Sub floor, room 1138, why?

Matt: Meet me down there as fast as you can!

Jerry: What's this about, Parkman?

Matt: Just do it! I'm on my way!

(inside the dressing room)

Heather: What do you want?

Assailant: I just wanted you to love me! I just wanted you to think of only me! Not that, that, dancer! That creep! (Parkman open's the door) Get out!

Matt: I can't do that. Now, listen to me. Just put the gun down.

Assailant: No! You don't understand!

Matt: Come on, you don't want to hurt anybody.

Assailant: I don't want to. I have to!

Matt gives him a command via telepathy: Stop! Give me the gun!

(Assailant hands it over.)

Matt: Thank you.

Heather: What did you just do?

Matt's co-worker: Yeah, Parkman, what did you just do?

Matt: I didn't do anything, he just handed me the gun.

Heather: No, no. You did something. How did you do that? Whatever you did, I've gotta thank you on stage in front of all my fans!

Matt: No, that's okay. I don't want anyone to know about it.

Heather: But you're a hero.

Matt: No, I'm not. I shouldn't even be here. Look, I--

Matt gives her a command via telepathy: You never saw me. Jerry apprehended this man as he was trying to kill you. I was never here.

Matt Narrating: Alright, can't go back to that job. You almost blew it, Parkman. The last thing you need is to try and explain what happened on the eleven o'clock news.

(Leaves arena and returns home...opening the door, Matt is met by Daphne.)

Daphne: It's on the news. Someone tried to kill Heather Haze. What happened?

Matt: I don't want to talk about it.

Daphne: So, did you? You did something, didn't you? I know you did!

Matt: Yes. But, I'm not sure I did the right thing.

Daphne: But you saved the day? What's wrong with that?

Matt: I could have put us in danger Daphne. Promise me that you'll keep a low profile.

Daphne: But, I like using my pwers. And besides no one can see me as well as catch me. And--

Matt: That's not the point. Just, promise me, please? If anything were to happen to you I--

Daphne: I'll try, Okay? I promise. I promise no one will catch me. Okay?

Matt: Daphne!

[The End]
